A Guide For Praying to Four Face Buddha

Many of us would like to visit the Shrine seeking guidance and peace of mind, yet we are curious how to start. Below is a quick guide to get you started.

Note: This is for the shrine located inbetween Chit Lom and Siam BTS station.

Enter through the main gate of Erawan (aka Four Face Buddha), turn right and go towards the flower shop. This is the only legit shop in this location.

Once there, purchase one set which consists of of 4 pieces of little flower garlands, one candle and one pack of 12 joss sticks. Should cost you between 40 to 50 bhat at time of writing.

Take out the joss sticks and light them at any litted lamp, make sure they are smoking before you start (you may blow out any live flame). Candle should be lit along with the joss sticks.

Each side has a specific area or area of specialty. Starting from the side facing the gate (going Clockwise or your left):-

Facing the Main Gate - Personal Desires

Facing BTS Chit Lom - Career or Business

Facing Building - Family and Love Life

Facing Flower Shop - Wealth/ Money

Procedure for each side is as follows:-

  1. Facing the Buddha, calm your mind and ask for 1 thing you desire most.

  2. Turn to your left and place 3 joss sticks in the sand. Candle placed for the first face you approached.

  3. Hang the flower garland

When you are done with all four sides, go back to the first and thank the Buddha. Wash your hands at the vat located at the side and leave.

Should your wish be granted, you HAVE to return and "give back" to the Buddha in the form of dancers (located next to the flower shop), pending on your pocket depth, as long as you are sincere 3-4 dancers are enough. I am not sure how but I cannot stress this enough!

Now then, we are ready to eat and shop! ONWARD!
