Preparing For Bangkok

We have all been there. Stepping off the plane to kick off our adventure in Bangkok. Below are some pointers to look out for:-

1. Immigration Card

Get the contact number and address of the hotel/ apartment you will be residing at in Bangkok. You will need to provide this information upon entry.

2. Local Sim Card

Purchase a local sim card with data plan at either Don Meung or Suvarnabhumi International Airport. It will cost you about THB250 or less but the value on return is a lot more. You only need 1 if travelling in a group. When it is your turn, pass the person your passport, and mobile phone. Let them set it up for you.

Should you decide to purchase in town to avoid the rush at the airport, most 7-11s do not have the data plan and they definitely do not set up the connection for you.

There are 3 carriers, namely AIS, True and dtac (Green, red and blue respectively). Find one you like, since the data plans are roughly the same.

3. Travelling into Town

Taxi - Since you have the address on hand, you may show to the counter. While they charge marginally more than the meter rate, it is best to hang on to the ticket given. If you feel the driver has taken you someplace else, you may call the number to report.

While this rarely happens, it does from time to time and we don't want to get off on the wrong foot.

Public Transportation

Suvarnabhumi International Airport - The Airport Link will take you into the heart of town. Check with the station people which is the best stop to get off at and whether you can grab a cab or another train to your desired location.

Don Meung International Airport - There is a public bus that will take you to Mochit BTS. It is located at the exit near the Taxi Stand at the Arrival Level.

Wanderer Phi M has brought friends and family to unravel the sights, sounds and tastes of Bangkok. He believes we should have our own adventure and not be guided where to go and what to do. Instead, provides knowledge/ insights for ourselves discover this land of smiles.
